Does everyone know that it's Boosh night on TV this weekend...  Easter Saturday on BBC3 - think they're showing selected episodes but most interesting is that there's a new documentary to go with it.

I watched the documentary last night - The Mighty Boosh: A Journey Through Time And Space. It was really good and worth watching for the little home-video clips of their earlier performances.

 http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/item/b009lt13.shtml?src=ip_mp

Loads of comedians (Bob Mortimer, Jenny Eclair, Stewart Lee, Paul Whitehouse, Vic Reeves etc) had little bits to say - some coming across as more grumpy than others.

Various musicians had little bits to say also - and I have to confess that it's this aspect that makes me more uncomfortable. Perhaps if I was younger and knew who more of them were I would get more excited about this, but it doesn't really work so well for me - yes I know who Kasabian are but The Horrors, some bloke out of Dirty Pretty Things etc. Not so sure.

I really enjoyed watching The Boosh on Tour last year but this documentary (and part of the framing pieces they used to introduce some of the Boosh progs on BBC3 last night) made me realise that I don't know if I could face seeing them live now. It's not so much the larger venues but the obsessive fans. I think they would get in the way of the experience for me - I would be too annoyed by the fans to be able to enjoy it. Is that just me? Perhaps I'm wrong but I doubt I'll find out. It makes me a little sad, cos watching this last night reminded me how great they are.

Is anyone going to see them on the next tour? If so let me know how it goes.

Funnily enough the documentary last night didn't mention this advert which Julian Barratt did - probably the place most of us first saw him. Fortunately someone on youtube has dug it out:

It was a great program. How bitter was Lee Mack when he was talking about signing Boosh cd's? Always good to see Lenny Henry's opinions on anything as well.

I kinda know exactly what you mean about the fans. When they were doing the live links from the studio, you got the feeling that if they'd read the telephone directory out loud, the fans would be cheering like it was the second coming. I was amazed when they showed the clip of the queue for the signing in HMV. Only then did I realise how popular they are....just like rock stars.

It was great watching them visiting old venues in the documentary, and just being funny together.

It was alluded to in the documentary, but watching Party and then Milky Joe showed how it changed in the third series from being something all the family could watch, to something that you couldn't, with the swearing and the drug references. But I suppose that they're pitching it at the old 18-24 demographic aren't they?

Ultimately I guess, they're comedians, so I'll like em till they stop being funny. I'm not sure about seeing them on the next tour. There are only so many times I can watch remixes of Tundra.

Exactlee.

I missed the very beginning of the 'night' so was a bit thrown when after the documentary it went to them in the studio with all those people.

It does sound like they are intending to do more songs on the new tour - which again worries me slightly with the whole 'rock stars' tag. If I saw them live I mainly want to see them being funny. I don't mind the odd song but I don't think I'd buy an album just of their songs. Although I do like that Future Sailors so I might have to take that back. So long as they still have plenty of banter and stuff live.

You're right, it was great just watching them being funny together. Someone hit the nail on the head in the documentary when they said it was the two of them at the centre bickering (I can't remember how they put it). I'm not so bothered about the fantastical elements, I really enjoy just Howard and Vince talking and bantering. That whole 'don't touch me' thing is still hilarious. Seeing them live you could see how they were improvising and riffing off each other which just made it funnier and funnier.

Ken! What do you think?

Hullo! Yes, I watched Boosh Night, obviously. I enjoyed the documentary part of it and could sit and watch the two of them just talking and picking at each other all night. They are fenuinely funny when they're just bouncing off each other. I went to see them when they were last on tour and loved it (so much so that I went twice) but didn't muster up the enthusiasm to buy tickets for the forthcoming tour. Mainly because it would be so much more of a faff to get tickets this time - I can't abide the whole trying to get online or at a ticket office the second they open just to get decent seats thing. It was a bit like that last time but I imagine that it will be much worse this time. I was also put off by the realisation that I'd probably be the oldest person in the building (definitely the audience, at least) - like you said, I thought about how the venue would be packed to the rafters with screaming and hysterical under 25s and how that would totally detract from the experience. Hell really can be other people.

I still fancy Julian Barratt though but only because he reminds me of Papa.

I forgot to say! I also laughed at the Lee 'Embittered' Mack and Paul 'Resentful' Whitehouse bits of the documentary but not for the reasons that they would like.....

Ha ha, yeah. Whitehouse seemed completely mystified by the whole thing. I've seen him on other stuff where he seems to come across as a miserable git these days, whereas Charlie Higson seems really affable.

I just wish I'd checked here ealier while there was still time to catch those Listen Again links

Well Christmas comes early for you this year Ken (or late cos I'm responding to something you posted in November).

Some industrious chap recorded the interview The Mighty Boosh did with Colin Murray for Radio One in his In The Company Of... slot. With any luck you can download it here:

Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt were on Radio 2's Weekender programme on Friday night (16th May) - I think they were talking about the Tour but not sure.

If you want to Listen again or download a podcast of the programme you can do so until this Friday (23rd) ici (as we French say).
