I've changed the pagasus.org home page to include some "active" content. Basically, the top left picture and text is generated dynamically using the most popular tags on pagatronix. 3 of the top 15 tags are randomly selected, and then a google image search is performed on the first of the 3 tags returned. The returned image is then resized and switched to black and white.

You should get a different image each time you refresh the page. Sometime's it's more successful than others. Matt Berry, Stewart Lee, Charlie Brooker appear to be under-represented on google images. And Adam and Joe for that matter. If you see the picture of the three old geezers sat down by the microphones, it means that the active search has failed, and a backup picture is being used.

It should update automatically based on tags. Start tagging everything with "gay porn" for example, and the home page will be decorated accordingly

Disney Cinemagic

I "discovered" this yesterday. It's not in the same block of channels as the other Disney crap in the sky guide, and it shows, as the name suggests, Disney films. There's also, if it takes your fancy, Cinemagic HD lurking hidden in the Sky Guide.

So yesterday, I was able to introduce the little ones to Toy Story, which was great. I also managed to find Ben's old Woody and Buzz in his toyboxes, so they're being used again.

Also on yesterday, was Tron (not as good as I remembered!) This/next week, they'll be showing Bug's Life, Cars, Aristocats, Monsters Inc. and towards the end of September, Up. Hooray!

Is the subject of BBC News' "5 minutes with" and is worth a look. There's something about the interviewer that is quite annoying, and Lee sometimes appears to be on the verge of making a comment after a particularly inane question.

You Have Been Watching

In case you weren't aware, the lost episode of You Have Been Watching has finally been shown. This is the Crime special which got pulled at the last minute due to events in the news at the time - it was meant to show as the last episode of the series.

I found out today that they aired it on E4 at obscure o'clock on August 4th. Fortunately, it's still available on 4OD although it's a bit hard to track down.

It's well worth a watch, the usual standard, and includes Brooker bashing CSI Miami amongst other things.

After over a whole minute's searching, I can't find whether Paul Chadwick is working on new Concrete stuff. His blog seems to suggest that he is.

I hope so. Any ideas? He should do a nice happy Hollywood ending for The World Below while he's at it.

Microsoft's new Bing search engine has a cheeky feature that returns video thumbnails of your search results. The clever bit is that they start to play if you mouse over them. Great news if you're a raincoat-wearing frotter.

Apparently, lot's of corporate firewalls are yet to catch up and block bing's video search results. Why not try it where you work? On second thoughts, don't.

How important was the politics of "Fear of a Black Planet" in shaping the America of today? Where has the political rap message gone in 2010 and what is its legacy? Soul II Soul's Jazzie B looks back at a music Public Enemy frontman Chuck D has always described as "The Black CNN".

It's been twenty years since Public Enemy's Hip Hop masterpiece "Fight the Power" exploded onto the music scene. Controversial and political, it would later form part of their defining album "Fear of a Black Planet". It soon became the benchmark album of activist rap. Many would say it was the best the genre has ever produced.

Combining the lyrics of Chuck D and sidekick Flavor Flav, backed by a series of the finest East Coast producers (including The Shocklee brothers), Fear of a Black Planet was a rallying cry against African-American communities for their political indifference.

With help from Spike Lee (who would use the "Fight the Power" throughout his film Do the Right Thing), Public Enemy and their message helped scare the hell out of white middle America, insulting a few Elvis and John Wayne fans along the way.

Now, two decades later, "Fight the Power" is seen as one of the best Rap tracks ever made, while so significant is "Fear of a Black Planet" to American popular culture, it was one of 50 recordings chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. To date it is the only Hip Hop album in the collection.

Apple stuff on ebay is stupidly expensive

It's just mental.

I was looking for a cheapo ipod a while back, so was looking on ebay for a second hand one, and the prices were just mental. Like only about a tenner cheaper than just buying a new one from a shop.

Now I'm looking for a digital media streamer. (At the moment, if I download a film, I have to burn it to CD or DOOVDE and then pop it in the DOOVDE player under the telly. With a digital media streamer, it sits under your telly, and connects to your pc via wireless and so you don't need to burn stuff any more. Some of them also allow you to surf the net, watch Youtube, etc. etc.)

Thing is, these things cost over a ton. So I was looking at Apple TV and Mac Minis instead. Apple TV's only play stuff via iTunes though. You can hack them, but need another Mac in order to do this, so it's a bit of a non-starter.

That leaves a Mac Mini. Nice and small and quiet, and can sit under your telly.

But again, they're all mental prices on Ebay. Mac Minis are 400+ new, but year-old-ones are still going for 300+ on ebay. The apple laptops are the worst. Broken / Faulty apple laptops go for over a hundred. It's mental.

Apparently, you can use Xbox 360's to do the same sort of thing (streaming) as well as play games on them of course. But I'm not sure about having a 360 sitting underneath my TV. I mean, I'm not 17 / Chris Moyles. Have the 360 and then a big stacked pile of empty beer cans. Whatever happened to Sapporo?
